Eco-Anxiety, Hurricane Helene & Understanding Compassion & Community Connection as a Climate Solution

I planned to publish my new book Eco-Anxiety: Saving Our Sanity, Our Kids, and Our Future, with HarperCollins for September 24th during Climate Week in New York City.

What wasn't planned was a catastrophic hurricane aimed at the Southeastern United States.

Thursday, September 26th, anchor Joe Fryer of NBC News Now interviewed founder me to talk about my new book, the impacts of extreme weather on our communities and mental health, and how to move from eco-anxiety to action. Watch the interview below.

Joe and I discussed the big three feelings of denial, overwhelm, and helplessness - BEFORE disaster strikes -and how to get ready for the unthinkable. These emotiona are grounded in “eco-anxiety, “unease or apprehnsion about the future because of the degradation of the environment.”  The climate crisis is real. Young people are especially clear.

On September 26 the message of #onegreenthing was clear, but the devastation ahead was still unknown. The tragic impacts of Hurricane Helene are now evident. No one in these areas -- hundreds of miles from the coast -- ever imagined that they would experience a calamity caused by a hurricane.
